AR level 7.0–7.9: common questions
What grade is AR level 7.0–7.9?
AR levels follow the U.S. grade scale, so 7.0–7.9 is text written at roughly the grades 7–8 level. That is the difficulty of the words and sentences, not who the book is for: picture books are often read aloud to younger children than their AR level suggests, and many children read comfortably a little above or below their grade.
What Lexile is AR level 7.0–7.9?
There is no exact conversion, but AR 7.0–7.9 usually falls around 970–1120L. Both scales measure text complexity with different formulas; use whichever one your child's school reports.
How do I know if a book at AR 7.0–7.9 is right for my child?
Ask your child's teacher for their tested AR range (often reported as a ZPD such as 3.2–4.4) and pick books inside it. If your child knows all but one to five words on a typical page and can retell what happened, the level is right.
